Sue Kinoshita became the Minister Counsellor, Deputy Head of Mission and Director of UK Trade and Investment in August 2015.
Sue joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in 1983, and has since worked on Asia-Pacific regional affairs, EU accession issues, HR and Finance at the FCO in London. Before becoming Deputy Head of Mission in the Republic of Korea, Sue was Director of Trade and Investment Japan in the British Embassy Tokyo. She also served as Consul-General and Corporate Services Director at the British Government Offices in Geneva from 2008-2010.
Sue has a degree in Pure Mathematics, Statistics and German Language Studies from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. She is married with one daughter and one son.
Deputy Head of Mission, British Embassy Seoul
The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
