Sue Higgins
Biography
Sue Higgins joined DCLG as Director General, Finance and Corporate Services on 1 August 2011. She also makes an invaluable contribution to our policy programme in localism and has worked on the review of local government funding.
Sue is now overseeing the department’s response to the government’s transparency agenda and is chairing DCLG’s Public Data and Transparency Board.
Career
Sue first worked in local government for Slough Borough Council. Subsequent roles include:
- Strategic Director of Resources at the London Borough of Sutton
- President of the Society of Municipal Treasurers from 2005 to 2006
- Director General at the Department for Education (DfE), where she oversaw improvements to financial management, IT, procurement and facilities. She also helped with the government’s efficiency programme and the reform of DfE’s arm’s length bodies.
