Steve Gillespie

Biography

Steve Gillespie began his civil service career with the Employment Department in the North East, developing vocational training programmes for young people. He worked on the project team that established the Government Offices network and qualified as an accountant after successfully completing a departmental CIMA bursary. He then took responsibility for developing financial control policy and had attachments to HM Treasury and to a commercial training organisation.

In 1999, Steve moved to Prison Service HQ and for more than ten years delivered in a range of senior finance roles, including strategic and business planning, performance improvement and value for money. He joined MOJ Corporate Finance in February 2010 to lead the department’s Spending Review bid. In December 2010 he was appointed Finance Director of HM Courts Service and became Finance Director of Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service in April 2011.
