Stephen Braviner Roman

Biography

Stephen Braviner Roman, Director General for Directorate Litigation with Justice and Security, responsible for GLD’s Litigation Group, the advisory Divisions for the Home Office, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Defence, DCMS and HSE and the Bona Vacantia Division.

Stephen is a member of the GLD Board and chairs the Operations Committee. He is GLD’s Board lead for Diversity and Inclusion, Client Relationships, Relationships with external firms and Counsel, Pro Bono and Volunteering.

Stephen is also a member of the Home Office’s Executive Committee.

Stephen was promoted to Director General in 2014 and led GLD’s Directorate A, which latterly comprised the Litigation Group, BEIS, DIT, HMT, CO, COELA and BV.

• Legal Director at the Department for Communities and Local Government, 2013 to 2014

• Legal Director at the Serious Organised Crime Agency, 2011 to 2012

• Legal Director, Legal Services B, at the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills , 2008 to 2011 responsible for state aid, competition law, employment, trade, intellectual property and higher education

• Deputy Director, Immigration and Borders Team, at the Home Office, 2005 to 2008

• Deputy Director, Attorney General’s Office, 2002 to 2005

• Deputy Director, Northern Ireland Office team, Home Office, 2001 to 2002
