Professor Simon Brake

Biography

Following consultation with the Commissioner for Public Appointments, Professor Simon Brake has been appointed as interim chair of the IRP from 1 June 2026 to 31 March 2027, or until a new chair is appointed, whichever is sooner.

Simon works as Chief Innovation and Engagement Officer and Professor at the University of Warwick Medical School, and as Group Director for Research and Development for the ‘Foundation Group’ made up of four NHS trusts which provide health services across areas of Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire. Simon is an experienced senior NHS and social care leader and chief officer of over 30 years and has led a number of large scale service reviews.

Simon has been an NHS managerial member of the Independent Reconfiguration Panel since 1 June 2021.

Interim Chair, Independent Reconfiguration Panel

The Interim Chair has overall responsibility for the Independent Reconfiguration Panel to provide expert advice on NHS reconfigurations or significant service change to ministers.
