Dr Shona Arora

Biography

Dr Shona Arora is currently UKHSA’s interim Chief Medical Advisor. She joined UKHSA at its inception in 2021, as Director of Health Equity and Clinical Governance. Prior to this she was Public Health England’s Deputy Director for Public Health Workforce and led the development of a national public health workforce strategy for England in 2015. She joined PHE in 2013 as Centre Director for Avon Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, after 12 years as Director of Public Health in Gloucestershire.

Shona qualified as a GP and public health consultant, training and working in and around London. She has also worked abroad on various public health programmes during her career such as HIV prevention and Dengue Fever, and been a Visiting Fellow at the Kings Fund, working on health improvement and diversity issues. Her commitment to preventing ill health and reducing health inequity attracted her to public health and has been a constant feature of her career to date.
