Sarah Rapson

Biography

Sarah Rapson was appointed Director General, UK Visas & Immigration in March 2014 (having been interim director general since April 2013).

Sarah joined the civil service in 2005 as Operations Director at the Identity and Passport Service (now HM Passport Office). In 2010, she was made Chief Executive, HM Passport Office and was given the immediate task of dismantling the national identity scheme. The same year, she was appointed by the Queen as Registrar General for England and Wales.

Before joining the civil service, Sarah’s career was in retail financial services, including management positions at American Express, Barclays and Woolwich plc. She holds an MBA from London Business School.
