Dr Samantha Burgess
Biography
Sam joined the Marine Management Organisation in January 2014.
She’s an interdisciplinary scientist with research interests in ocean governance and the science-policy interface, with over 15 years’ experience in marine, climate and environmental sciences.
Career highlights include:
- establishing a consultancy on marine environmental risk
- leading the marine programme for an international non-governmental organisation
- co-designing international citizen science programmes
- developing scientific programmes in Europe, the Caribbean, Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific
Sam has publications in earth system science, marine ecology and aquaculture and her career has spanned the academic, not-for-profit, consultancy and government sectors.
