Ruth Tomlinson

Biography

Ruth Tomlinson is a Legal Director in Home Office Legal Advisers in the Government Legal Department.  She leads the policing, crime and national security team, as well as being Legal Director for the Northern Ireland Office.

Ruth qualified as a solicitor at Baker & McKenzie LLP, where she worked in their London, Chicago and Washington DC offices.

After a number of years in private practice Ruth joined the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development office in 2012. 

Since joining government, Ruth has held a number of legal roles, including spending three years as a legal adviser at the UK Mission to the European Union and most recently as Head of International Law & National Security at the Attorney General’s Office.
