Rubbina Karruna

Biography

Rubbina Karruna is the Development Counsellor at the British Embassy in Beijing leading the UK’s engagement with China on international development issues. She was appointed to this role in October 2022.

Rubbina has worked on UK Aid programming for over 14 years. Prior to taking up her current role Rubbina was the West Africa Cities, Infrastructure and Energy Adviser for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), based in Ghana, working on urban climate change, infrastructure and energy issues with governments and partners across Ghana, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Liberia. From 2014 to 2019, Rubbina was FCDO’s Cities Adviser leading the UK’s strategy and international engagement on urban development and housing across Africa and Asia; prior to this she worked as a Research and Evaluation Adviser managing research programmes across the development agenda for UK Aid including on maternal health, economic development and adolescent girl’s empowerment.
