Rob Macaire CMG

Biography

Rob Macaire was Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran from April 2018 to July 2021.

Rob studied at Oxford University for his MA in Modern History and joined the FCO in 1990. Rob has served overseas in Bucharest, Washington, New Delhi and in Nairobi where he was appointed British High Commissioner. He has had a wide range of responsibilities at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London including as the Director for Consular Services. Prior to joining the FCO, Rob worked at the Ministry of Defence and also recently worked in the private sector as Director of Government/Public Affairs and Political Risk at BG Group plc. Rob learned Farsi before taking up his role in Tehran in April 2018.

Rob is married to Alice and they have 2 daughters, Molly and Nell.
