Biography

Rebecca Handler is the Acting Director and Deputy Head of the Attorney General’s Office, appointed in May 2026.

Prior to her current appointment, Rebecca was Head of the Domestic Law Team in the Attorney General’s Office from May 2024, leading a team that covered all public law and criminal law advice to the Law Officers. Before that, Rebecca was a Deputy Director in Home Office Legal Advisors leading a team advising on illegal migration and modern slavery. She first worked in AGO in 2020 and has also worked in Cabinet Office Legal Advisers and GLD Litigation.

Rebecca started her legal career in the City of London, qualifying into commercial litigation before moving to join what was then the Treasury Solicitor’s Department.

The Acting Director and Deputy Head of the Attorney General’s Office supports the Director General lead a team of 55-60 legal, policy and corporate professionals, who support the Attorney General and Solicitor General across the range of their functions.
