Philippa Lloyd has been Director General, People, Strategy and Higher Education since February 2015. This followed a broadening of the role, prior to which Philippa was Director General, People and Strategy from September 2013; and Director General, Communications and Corporate Effectiveness from September 2012.
Philippa is a physicist by background and began her career as a science journalist. She first joined the government in the former Office of Science and Technology to work on scientific research funding policy, going on to hold a variety of policy and corporate centre roles. Before taking up her Director General position, she was Director of Consumer and Competition Policy (CCP) in the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS).
Director General, People, Strategy and Higher Education
The Director General for People, Strategy and Higher Education sits on the Executive and Departmental Boards. The Director General helps to provide management and leadership in the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and has responsibility for:
- higher education
- human resources
- BIS board and committee structures
- departmental strategy including the growth agenda
