Philippa Lloyd took up the post of Director General, People, Communications and Corporate Effectiveness on 3 September 2012. From September 2013, her remit has broadened and she is now Director General, People and Strategy.
Philippa is a physicist by background and began her career as a science journalist. She first joined the government in the former Office of Science and Technology to work on scientific research funding policy, going on to hold a variety of policy and corporate center roles. Before taking up her Director General position, she was Director of Consumer and Competition Policy (CCP) in BIS.
Director General, People and Strategy
The Director General for People and Strategy sits on the Executive and Departmental Boards. The Director General helps to provide management and leadership in BIS and has specific responsibility for:
- human resources
- innovation capability
- BIS board and committee structures
- departmental strategy including driving forward the growth agenda
