Dr Phil Boyle took up his post as British Ambassador to Madagascar in November 2017.
Prior to taking up his current position he worked in National Security Directorate at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO). This followed his posting as British Ambassador to Mali and Niger from 2012 to 2014. He has also served as Consul General in Lille, France, and as a Political Officer in both Pakistan and Yemen. He holds a degree and a PhD in chemistry and, before becoming a diplomat, carried out postdoctoral research at the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory at the University of Oxford.

The Ambassador represents Her Majesty The Queen and the UK government in the country to which they are appointed. They are responsible for the direction and work of the Embassy and its Consulates, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services.
