Biography

Dr Rice is an academic economist and is currently a Senior Research Fellow and the Associate Head for Research in the Economics Department at the University of Oxford. She is also a Research Associate in the Spatial Economics Research Centre at the London School of Economics. Previously, Dr Rice was Senior Lecturer and Head of Economics at the University of Southampton. She has taught also at the universities of Sussex and British Columbia. She was formerly a Member of the Communities and Local Government Department’s Expert Panel on Neighbourhoods, Cities and Regions Analysis. Her primary research field is labour economics and her recent work has focused on the transition of young people from full-time schooling to the labour market, analysing the factors influencing participation in post-compulsory education and training and subsequent labour market outcomes.

The function of STRB is to consider matters referred to it by the Secretary of State for the Department for Education (DfE) in relation to the remuneration, professional duties or working time of school teachers in England and Wales. The Secretary of State can refer matters to STRB at any time. STRB reports to the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Education.
