Nigel Duncan OBE MBA

Biography

Nigel Duncan joined the Further Education (FE) Commissioner’s team as an FE Adviser in August 2019.

He was appointed Interim Deputy Further Education Commissioner in January 2021, and became a Deputy FE Commissioner in September 2023.

Nigel has worked in further education for over 40 years, in 7 UK further education colleges.

He has worked as a lecturer and his senior include:

  • Director of Faculty
  • Director of Curriculum
  • Vice Principal Curriculum and Corporate Development
  • Principal and Chief Executive

Nigel retired from Fareham College, graded outstanding, in 2019.

Nigel is is a board member for a university and an Institute of Technology. He was awarded an OBE in 2019 for his services to further education.

Deputy Further Education Commissioner

The Deputy FE Commissioners work with FE colleges to help improve the quality and sustainability of their provision, and reduce the risk of failure. This includes:

  • providing support to colleges in intervention
  • preventing colleges from going into intervention
  • contributing to policy development for colleges in the FE sector
