Nathan Phillips

Biography

Nathan Phillips CBE, is the Department for Transport’s (DfT) Independent Sponsor Director at Active Travel England, representing and bridging to the department at the Board.

Nathan is currently the Director of Strategy at the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and a member of the department’s executive committee with a focus on coordinating DBT’s policy on motivating economic growth.

Nathan was formally Director of Shareholdings at DfT, leading the corporate sponsorship of major delivery bodies including Network Rail, High Speed 2 (HS2Ltd and National Highways and driving an improvement in the wider sponsorship of Public Bodies.

Prior to joining DfT, Nathan was the Director of Business and Citizen readiness and Director of Planning and Analysis at the Department for Exiting the European Union (DExEU) for 3 years. He joined DExEU from UK Government Investments (UKGI), where he led work on nuclear, postal services, rail and housing market interventions.

Before joining the civil service in 2011, Nathan spent the first 10 years of his career at PwC and KPMG as a corporate strategy consultant in the UK and overseas.
