Matt Moody

Biography

Matt Moody took up his post as Consul-General Guangzhou in July 2022. He leads the UK Government’s engagement in the provinces of Guangdong, Fujian, Guangxi, Hainan, Hunan and Jiangxi in South China.

Matt joined the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) in 2002. After completing Mandarin language training at Peking University, he took up his first overseas posting, also in the British Consulate-General Guangzhou, from 2006 - 2008. Matt then returned to London to lead a team in the FCDO’s China Department.

From 2012 – 2015, Matt served as Political Counsellor, then Deputy Head of Mission, at the British High Commission in Singapore.

Matt then went on to serve as Spokesperson and Head of Communication for the UK Mission to the United Nations in New York from 2015 to 2019. On his return to London, he was the FCDO’s Head of Strategic Communication.

Matt speaks Mandarin Chinese and has a Master of Business Administration degree from The Open University.
