Mike Smith

Biography

Mike Smith was appointed Head of Counter-Terrorism and Security (CTS) Division in September 2018.

He is responsible for leading and setting the direction of the Division to help protect UK national security now and in the future, including developing the next generation of scientists and engineers. He oversees Dstl’s engineering apprenticeship scheme and the ordnance, munitions and explosives degree-level apprenticeship.

Prior to joining Dstl, Mike worked in a range of military and security posts around the world, including the International Security Assistance Force and NATO’s Immediate Reaction Force Headquarters.

Mike is a diversity and inclusion champion for the LGBT+ community. He has Masters in Business Administration, and is a Fellow of both The Chartered Management Institute and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
