Mike Nithavrianakis

Biography

Mr Michael Nithavrianakis was appointed His Majesty’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Somalia, and took up his appointment in May 2023.

Mr Nithavrianakis has extensive experience as a career diplomat and outside the UK Government. He has had postings to Malaysia, Russia, Ghana, Saudi Arabia, Greece and India.  More recently he has been Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi and Trade Director for Pakistan.  He has also had brief stints as Deputy Ambassador in Kabul and Consul General in Milan. He spent a period on sabbatical from the Foreign Service gaining experience in the private sector from 2014-2018.

Several of his roles have focused on international security, regional politics and supporting bilateral trade & investment priorities.

The Ambassador represents His Majesty The King and the UK government in the country to which they are appointed. They are responsible for the direction and work of the embassy and its consulates, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services.
