Michael Vance

Biography
Michael Vance joined the Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) in 2004, having previously served in the Royal Irish Regiment in the armed forces.
He has been a police officer since 1997, initially serving with the Royal Ulster Constabulary and Police Service of Northern Ireland Full Time Reserve.
During his career with the CNC he has worked at all ranks up to Assistant Chief Constable including:
- Tactical Response Group
- Operational Firearms Commander
- Tactical Firearms Commander
- Post Incident Manager
As an experienced CNC senior leader, he has been the Divisional Commander for each CNC Operational Division, developing local response arrangements in support of site licensed companies in a highly regulated environment.
As an accredited Strategic Firearms Commander, he has been responsible for armed protection of all designated nuclear and non-nuclear sites across the UK. In his current role he is also responsible for domestic and international armed escorts of nuclear material. He took up the role of T/ACC - Operations in 2023 and was substantively promoted in 2024.
Assistant Chief Constable, Operations
The Assistant Chief Constable, Operations, is the chief officer for all operational deployments, armed or otherwise. Responsibilities include:
- Constabulary firearms lead on matters pertaining to the use of all weapons systems in the CNC including the deployments of the strategic escort group
- Senior Responsible Owner (SRO) for Operational projects
- Chairs the CNC’s firearms standing committee
