Michael Hurn

Biography

Michael Hurn was Acting Director General, High Speed 2 Group for the Department for Transport from 23 June 2017 to 17 November 2017.

Career

Michael started his career at London Underground working on major rail schemes including the Jubilee Line Extension and proposals to extend the East London Line. Other career highlights include:

  • Director, High Speed Rail Group, DfT, responsible for the sponsorship of Phase 1 of the HS2 project
  • Director, Major Projects, DfT, Senior Responsible Owner for Thameslink and Intercity Express Programme
  • Deputy Director, Major Projects, DfT, working on rail projects including the Thameslink programme and Kings Cross redevelopment
  • Strategic Rail Authority, responsible for the development and implementation of projects around the UK
