Biography

Matthew Webb arrived in the Dominican Republic in March 2016 to take up his present position as Deputy Head of Mission and HM Consul. He is also HM Consul for Haiti.

Matthew joined the FCO in 2007, and has worked in the Counter Proliferation and South Asia Departments at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London, and has had postings to the British Embassies in Afghanistan and Venezuela.

He studied Hispanics and Translation studies at the University of Manchester and spent time living in Brazil, Spain and Japan. He enjoys music, film and travel.

Deputy Head of Mission, British Embassy Santo Domingo

The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
