Dr Martin Longden CMG OBE

Biography

Dr Martin Longden is the British Ambassador to Libya.

Prior to this appointment, Dr Martin was Chargé d’Affaires ad Interim of the UK Mission to Afghanistan in Doha from September 2021 to January 2022. Before that, he was interim Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Beirut from January to July 2021, Head of the Near East Department and then UK Special Envoy to Syria (2017 to 2020), and Deputy Ambassador in the British Embassy Kabul (2015 to 2016).

British Ambassador to Libya

The Ambassador represents His Majesty The King and the UK government in the country to which they are appointed. They are responsible for the direction and work of the embassy and its consulates, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services.
