Lieutenant General Sir Mark Poffley KCB OBE

Biography

Commissioned into the Royal Army Ordnance Corps in 1985, his early regimental service included tours in both heavy armoured and light forces, including roles served with 16 Air Assault Brigade and 1 (UK) Armoured Division. Staff his appointments have included time in Army Plans in the Ministry of Defence, as the Principal Staff Officer to the Chief of Defence Staff, as the Chief of Staff at HQ Land Forces and as the Assistant Chief of Defence Staff (Capability and Force Design) in the Ministry of Defence. He assumed the appointment of Commander Force Development and Capability in February 2014, with responsibility for setting the future design of the Army and defining its capital investment programme. In April 2015 he was appointed Deputy Chief of the General Staff.

He has commanded on operations with 13 Air Assault Support Regiment RLC and 102 Logistic Brigade. During the course of his career he has seen operational service in the Gulf, Balkans, Afghanistan and Iraq. He currently leads The Royal Logistic Corps as the Master General of Logistics, an appointment he has held since June 2012.
