Mark Fisher CBE

Biography

Mark has been Director of the Office for Civil Society and Innovation since October 2014.

Prior to taking up post Mark was Social Justice Director in the DWP responsible for delivering on the Government’s agenda for the prevention of long term welfare dependency and for addressing multiple disadvantage. Mark was previously Jobseekers and Skills Director in the DWP, responsible for the national regime for supporting unemployed people (including responding to the recession, and designing and delivering the Work Programme).

Mark has been Chief Executive of the Sector Skills Development Agency and a Director of Working Links (Employment) Ltd. He is on the Council of Huddersfield University and is a Trustee of the Clore Social Leadership Foundation.

Main responsibilities:

  • To support the Government’s ambitions for volunteering, for philanthropy and social investment
  • To support the general development of the voluntary and community sector
  • To grow the National Citizen Service for young people
