Mark Bensberg

Biography

Mark Bensberg was appointed Deputy Head of Mission for Norway in July 2017.

Mark’s HM Diplomatic Service career spans Europe and Africa. Previous postings include Paris, Vienna and Brussels; as High Commissioner to Namibia, and more recently as Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire.

Mark’s first FCO appointment was to the Nordic section, where one of his earliest tasks was to help deliver the City of Oslo’s annual gift of a Christmas tree to Trafalgar Square.

Mark is married, with one daughter. He and his wife enjoy the great outdoors.

Deputy Head of Mission, Norway

The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
