Biography
The Rt Hon Baroness Beckett GBE was first appointed to the Committee on Standards in Public Life, and her term of office continues on its successor body, the Ethics and Integrity Commission, which was established on 13 October 2025.
Baroness Beckett was first elected as Labour MP for Derby South in 1983. She was Secretary of State for Trade and Industry 1997-1998, President of the Council and Leader of the House of Commons 1998-2001, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs 2001-2006, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs 2006-2007, and Minister for Housing and Planning 2008-2009. She has also been Chair of the Intelligence and Security Committee. Baroness Beckett is a member of the Labour National Executive Committee (1980-1981, 2012-) and is Chair of the Joint Committee on National Security Strategy.
