Lynne Charles

Biography

Lynne took up her appointment as Deputy British Ambassador to Bulgaria in September 2018. She joined the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in 2013, where she has led policy teams in both Prosperity and European Union Directorates.

Prior to joining the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Lynne worked on EU and international issues in a number of UK government departments, including the Cabinet Office (regulatory policy) the Treasury (trade policy) and the Department for International Development (trade policy). Before becoming a UK civil servant, Lynne was an official of the European Parliament (EP), working in its Secretariat in Brussels and then as Head of Public Affairs in the EP’s London Office.

Lynne has an undergraduate degree in History and Politics from Sheffield University; a doctorate in Applied Social Studies from Bradford University and a Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University.
