Lucy Joyce OBE

Biography

Ms Lucy Joyce OBE was appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova In October 2016. Previously Lucy was Acting High Commissioner to Zambia.

Lucy was Head of North America Department at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) from 2013 -2015 and has served overseas on a temporary assignment as Economic Prosperity Counsellor in Brasilia from 2012 to 2013. She has also served overseas in the foreign policy section of the British Embassy in Paris from 2004 to 2008, and as Press and Public Affairs Officer at the Embassy in Brussels from 2000 to 2004. Other temporary assignments include postings to New York, Belgrade, Sofia, Hong Kong, and Antananarivo.

From 2008-2012, Lucy was head of the FCO Olympics and Paralympics Unit. She was awarded the OBE (a UK honour) in 2012.

Lucy joined the FCO in 1992 after graduating from Warwick University with a BA with Honours in English and American Literature. In 2009 Lucy completed an MBA with the Open University. She served in South Asian Department, FCO, from 1992 to 1996 and then in the Central European Department, FCO, from 1997 to 1999.

The Ambassador represents Her Majesty The Queen and the UK government in the country to which they are appointed. They are responsible for the direction and work of the Embassy and its Consulates, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services.
