Lorely Burt

Biography

Lorely Burt was appointed as an Assistant Government Whip in November 2014. She was elected the Liberal Democrat MP for Solihull in 2005.

Education

Lorely grew up in the West Midlands and studied economics.

Political career

Lorely served as Liberal Democrat spokesperson on Northern Ireland, Small Business, and Women and Equality. In 2007 she was promoted to Shadow Minister for Business, Enterprise, and Regulatory Reform.

After the 2010 general election Lorely was appointed Co-Chair on Business, Innovation and Skills. In 2012 she resigned that role to support the Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander as his Parliamentary Private Secretary.

In 2014 Lorely was appointed the government’s Ambassador for Women in Enterprise.

Career outside politics

Lorely was an assistant prison governor before moving into personnel and training in the private sector. She later set up her own training company and was a director in marketing and finance.

Personal life

Lorely lives in Solihull with her husband, Richard. She has a daughter, Emma, and a step-son, James.
