Biography

Lisa Barrett took up the role of Deputy Head of Mission for the British Embassy Pyongyang in December 2023, having previously served in this role from 2017 to 2020. From 2020 to 2023 she served as Deputy Head of Mission in Antananarivo, Madagascar, and has also done postings overseas in Guatemala City, and in Consular and Climate Diplomacy teams in the UK. She holds a degree in Japanese and Spanish from Durham University.

Deputy Head of Mission to Democratic People’s Republic of Korea

The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
