Professor Linda M Luxon

Biography

Linda Luxon CBE BSc FRCP is Emeritus Professor of Audiovestibular Medicine at UCL and Honorary Consultant Physician in the Department of Audiovestibular Medicine, UCLH. Formerly she was Head of the Department of Neuro-otology at National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, and Head of Academic Audiovestibular Medicine at UCL Institute of Child Health and the UCL Ear Institute.

She is honorary consultant physician to Saint Luke’s Hospital for the Clergy and has served as Treasurer and Trustee to the Royal College of Physicians, leading on sustainability, and is currently Treasurer and Trustee at the RSM, leading on the health benefits of climate change mitigation.

She was President/Chairman of the British Society of Audiology, the European Federation of Audiological Societies, the International Association of Audiovestibular Physicians and the UK Health Alliance on Climate Change`. She established and chaired the Specialist Advisory Committee in Audiovestibular Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians and developed the Masters programmes in both audiovestibular medicine and science at UCL. She has edited seven books on hearing and balance disorders and led the Royal College of Physicians’ monograph: Excellence in Hearing and Balance Disorders. She has given advice to the Department of Health (Audiology Advisor), the WHO, the Hearing Aid Council, Royal National Institute for the Deaf, the Industrial Injuries Advisory Council, the Ministry of Defence, Industry and the Courts.

She was a member of the UCLH Research Ethics Committee, and a member of several MOD review groups, including noise induced hearing loss and mild traumatic head injury. She is currently a trustee of Independence at Home and Music for my Mind and was formerly a Trustee of the Hearing Conservation Council and the Chartered Society of Queen Square.

She has been a member of IMEG since 2012.
