Kunal Khatri

Biography

Kunal Khatri is the UK’s HM Trade Commissioner for North America, based at the British Consulate General in New York City. In this role he leads a cross-USA and Canada team to deliver new trade and investment opportunities across all economic sectors by helping UK firms export to and enter the market, and support US and Canadian firms to invest into UK.

Prior to this he spent five years at the British Embassy Beijing as the UK’s Minister-Counsellor & Director for Financial and Professional Services, and seven years at HM Treasury on financial services, international economics and as Ministerial speechwriter. Kunal has also worked at the World Bank, United Nations, and The Economist Newspaper. Kunal graduated from Oxford University, the London School of Economics, holds an MBA from Wharton Business School, and speaks fluent Mandarin.

HM Trade Commissioner for North America

The HM Trade Commissioner (HMTC) for North America oversees all Department for Business and Trade (DBT) work in North America including:

  • growing the overall bilateral trade and investment relationship
  • improving market access for British companies, including small and medium sized businesses (SMEs)
  • developing finance and trade policy

The HMTC also works closely with the wider diplomatic network and UK based colleagues to coordinate HMG activity on our wider prosperity agenda.
