Kate Johnston

Biography

Kate joined the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) in 2013. She spent five years overseeing Conflict, Security and Stability Fund programmes in the Middle East and North Africa, including a posting to Istanbul as the Head of the Syria Joint Programme Team. She also spent time in Consular Directorate supporting British Nationals stranded overseas as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Immediately prior to taking up her role as Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Juba, Kate was Deputy Head of Sanctions Unit at the FCDO leading on EU and UN sanctions and the establishment of the UK’s first independent sanctions regime.

Before joining the FCDO, Kate worked in various roles in the Department for Education and the Department for International Development.
