Dame Kate Dethridge

Biography

Dame Kate Dethridge started in her role as Regional Director for South East in September 2022.

She has worked within the Department for Education as Regional Schools Commissioner and Deputy Director in the north-west London and south central region since 2016.

Prior to her appointment, she had a varied career within the education sector:

  • an early years teacher, additional Ofsted inspector and headteacher for 18 years
  • National Leader of Education, running an outstanding school and a teaching school
  • an Associate Director of the National Education Trust
  • as chair and a member of departmental boards and review panels

Her work on school improvement led to her being made a Dame in the 2015 New Year’s Honours for services to education.

Regional Director for South East

The Regional Director for South East is responsible for working locally across children’s social care, SEND, schools and area-based programmes to improve outcomes for children, families and learners. They are responsible for making decisions in the following local authorities:

  • Isle of Wight
  • Kent
  • Medway
  • Milton Keynes
  • Oxfordshire
  • Portsmouth

  • Wokingham
