Mr Jonathan Wilks CMG


Mr Jon Wilks CMG was appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Iraq in November 2017. Prior to this he served as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Oman from 2014 to 2017.

He joined the FCO in 1989 as an Assistant Desk Officer Iran in the Middle East Department. He has extensive experience working in the Middle East with previous postings in Yemen (2010 to 2011), Dubai (2007 to 2009), Saudi Arabia, (1996 to 1999), Sudan (1993 to 1996), and more. He had also served as the Deputy Head of Mission, Baghdad from 2009 to 2010.

The Ambassador represents Her Majesty The Queen and the UK government in the country to which they are appointed. They are responsible for the direction and work of the Embassy and its Consulates, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services.
