John Morrison
Biography
John Morrison was Chief Executive Officer of the Institute for Human Rights and Business from 2009 until 2025 where he led the organisation’s global strategy, fundraising, and outreach.
John has advised governments, intergovernmental organisations, and businesses on human rights and wider issues of sustainability, development, and international affairs. He is the author of The Just Transition: a systems-thinking approach to climate action (2024), and The Social License: how to keep your organisation legitimate, published in 2014. John has published widely on issues relating to corporate responsibility, human rights, refugee protection, and human trafficking.
John previously sat on the UK Foreign Secretary’s Human Rights Advisory Group and has been a Harkness Fellow to the USA. In 2017, he was named one of the 100 most influential people worldwide on the issue of eliminating modern day slavery. As well as EGAC, John serves on several advisory boards including the World Economic Forum, the John Lewis Partnership, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development,
John has been a member of EGAC since January 2018. His appointment is due to end on 31st May 2026.
Member, Export Guarantees Advisory Council
Export Guarantees Advisory Council (EGAC) provides advice to UK Export Finance and its ministers on the policies UK Export Finance applies when doing business including:
- environmental impacts and human rights
- sustainable lending
- bribery and corruption
- disclosure, including freedom of information requests
