John Kirkland OBE

Biography

John Kirkland was a non-executive member of the Department for Transport Board from 10 June 2013 to 17 June 2016.

John is Chairman of the Bowmer and Kirkland Group of Companies, one of the largest privately owned construction, engineering and development groups in the UK. He is also President of 4 companies in the United States of America within the Homeland Securities field.

John was Chair of both Derbyshire Learning and Skills Council (LSC) from 2000 to 2008 and the LSC East Midlands Regional Board from 2004 to 2008. He is a Governor at Landau Forte College, Derby. Jon received an OBE in 1999 for services to Derbyshire, in particular for his former role as Chairman of Derbyshire Ambulance Service.

He is a National Literacy Trust Reading Champion for the National Reading Campaign and in 2001 was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Derby. John was the longest serving director of the Derby County Football Club (from 1981 to 2002) and became president in 2006, until the change of ownership in 2008.
