John Derrick
Biography
John Derrick is Deputy Director in the Global Talent Taskforce (GTT). The GTT seeks to attract the world’s exceptional talent to relocate to the UK, supporting the success of our Industrial Strategy growth-driving sectors.
John is currently on loan to the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). John’s previous DBT roles include Deputy Director Americas and Africa and Deputy Director Head of the Strategic Consultancy Unit (SCU).
His last FCDO role was Deputy Head of Mission and Consul-General at the British Embassy in Chile from October 2017 to July 2022.
He has served in a number of UK roles working for different government departments, including the FCDO, Home Office, Stabilisation Unit and DBT.
John has been posted to Brussels, Islamabad, Helmand (south Afghanistan) and Santiago. They have also included secondments to the European Commission and an exchange programme with the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
