Professor John Aston became the Home Office Chief Scientific Adviser in September 2017.
Professor Aston specialises in applied statistics. He was, until recently, a trustee of the Alan Turing Institute, and has previously spent much of his career working in the United States and Taiwan.
Home Office Chief Scientific Adviser
The Chief Scientific Adviser is responsible for:
- giving independent scientific advice to the Home Secretary and other Home Office ministers
- providing leadership and management of Home Office Science
- working with the wider network of Chief Scientific Advisers to address cross departmental issues
