Biography

Jo Churchill was appointed as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs on 17 September 2021.

She was previously Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Health and Social Care from 26 July 2019 to 16 September 2021. Before that, she was Assistant Government Whip from 9 January 2018 to 26 July 2019.

Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for Agri-Innovation and Climate Adaptation)

Responsibilities include:

  • science and innovation, including gene editing and agri-food innovation
  • Defra delivery of Net Zero
  • delivery of climate change adaptation across government
  • environmental management and regulation (chemicals, waste, air quality)
  • commercial projects
  • ministerial lead for COVID-19 relating to Defra issues
  • Commons Minister for animal welfare, including animal welfare legislation
