James Norton was appointed HR Director for the Department of International Trade in July 2016.
Prior to this he was was Director, Civil Service Resourcing where he was responsible for growing and developing in-house talent and recruitment services for the Civil Service including the award winning Fast Stream and Fast Track Apprenticeship programmes. James initially joined the Civil Service on the generalist Fast Stream where he undertook placements in policy, operations and HR in Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
An early posting leading an operational team in the Child Support Agency led James to specialise in Human Resources where he recognised the crucial role people played in achieving organisational objectives.
His roles in HR have included:
- Senior HR Business Partner for the Jobcentre Network within Jobcentre Plus
- HR Director for Strategy Group in DWP.
He initially joined Civil Service Resourcing in January 2013 from DWP as Head of Talent and Assessment Services where he was responsible for developing and implementing a single Talent Strategy for the Civil Service. James is a Member of the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development and has an interest in all things historical.
