Imogen Maclaren

Biography

Imogen is Head of International Civil Nuclear. Imogen and team lead on the development of UK’s international nuclear energy policy, and engagement with international partners on civil nuclear issues. This includes the UK’s government-to-government nuclear partnerships, and representation in international organisations on nuclear energy, technology, and safety issues.

Imogen is currently on secondment from the FCDO Diplomatic Service to the newly formed Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.

Imogen was previously posted to British Embassy Havana, first as Head of Political and later as Deputy Head of Mission. Imogen led the Embassy response to several crises, including political unrest in 2022 and the evacuation of British nationals during the pandemic.

Before that, Imogen was posted to British Embassy Mogadishu, where she led the political affairs and human rights portfolio. Notable work included negotiations on Somalia’s sexual offences legislation, several UN Human Rights Council resolutions, and work with civil society and politicians on a one-person-one-vote electoral model in an (ongoing) UK effort to support Somalia’s democratic transition.

Imogen has previously worked in a range of jobs in the FCDO (and formerly FCO), including on Europe, international security policy, and as a private secretary.
