Ian McKay

Biography

Ian McKay was appointed as a non-executive director of the SIA in March 2018 to represent the interests of Scotland. He is also Chair of the SIA’s HR and Remuneration Committee.

Career

Ian was previously the Director of Scottish Affairs for Royal Mail Group in Scotland and held senior positions with the Educational Institute of Scotland and at Stevenson College Edinburgh. He was previously Chair of the Institute of Directors in Scotland and a member of the IoD UK Council. Ian was a longstanding member of the Scottish Council of the CBI and the Executive Committee of the Scottish Council for Development and Industry. Ian served as inaugural Chairman of the Board of Edinburgh College and was a Board member at Colleges Scotland, the sector body for Further Education in Scotland, where he chaired the Employers’ Association for the sector. He was previously a member of the UK NHS Pay Review Body and the Scottish Advisory Committee of the telecommunications regulator Ofcom, and served on the boards of Lothian Buses plc. the Scottish Business Crime Centre, the Centre for Confidence and Well-Being, Arts & Business Scotland, and the Edinburgh UNESCO City of Literature Trust.

Currently, Ian serves as Independent Chair of the Scottish Police Negotiating Board, which considers police officer terms and conditions in Scotland, and chairs the Scottish Police Consultative Forum.

Elsewhere, Ian is a member of the Scottish Advisory Committee for the Electoral Commission and is a member of the International Advisory Board at Stirling University Management School, where he is an Honorary Professor.
