Ian Hughes

Biography

Ian Hughes was the British Ambassador to South Sudan 2013 to 2015. On his appointment, he said: “I am very pleased to have this opportunity to represent the United Kingdom in the UN’s newest member state. I hope to put the UK’s wide and strong range of relationships in South Sudan to good use to strengthen political, economic and security cooperation between the two countries.”

Ian Hughes was appointed as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to South Sudan following four years in Sierra Leone where he was the British High Commissioner, Freetown and Her Majesty’s Ambassador, Monrovia. Previously, he has served overseas in Europe, South Asia and Latin America, after joining the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in 1982. He is married to Tereasa June Hughes and they have three children.
