Hugh Evans joined the FCO in 1985 and his one of his first regions to cover as a Research Analyst was South and Southeast Asia. He has since served in a range of FCO and overseas posts with a particular focus on Asia and Europe, including postings as Her Majesty’s Consul General in Erbil, Political Officer in Kabul and Management Counsellor in Moscow. He took up his appointment as British Ambassador to Laos in mid 2015. He is married with two daughters.

British Ambassador to Laos
The Ambassador represents Her Majesty The Queen and the UK government in the country to which they are appointed. They are responsible for the direction and work of the Embassy and its Consulates, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services.
