Hermione Gough

Biography

Hermione Gough was Director, UK-EU Political at the UK Mission to the European Union between 2018 and 2020.

Previously, Hermione worked for five years as Minister Counsellor in the British Embassy in Paris where she led the EU and Global Issues section of the Embassy covering EU affairs, economic relations, migration and security.

Hermione joined the civil service in 1997. She spent the first 10 years of her career working for HM Treasury, including on secondment to the European Commission and the French Finance Ministry. From 2007-2010 she was a Deputy Director in the Department of Education, leading work to combat radicalisation among young people. She then returned to EU policy as Deputy Director in the Cabinet Office’s Europe and Global Issues Secretariat from 2010-2012 before being posted to Paris.

Hermione read Economics at Cambridge and has a Masters in Public Administration from the French Ecole Nationale d’Administration.
