Sir George Hollingbery KCMG

Biography

Sir George Hollingbery has been the British Ambassador to Cuba since February 2022. He was the Member of Parliament for Meon Valley from 2010 to 2019.

UK government

As Minister of State for Trade Policy 2018 to 2019, Sir George oversaw the renegotiation of multiple existing EU trade deals with third party countries. He signed new trade deals and visited multiple overseas countries to promote UK trade. Sir George also undertook the public consultation on future UK trade deals and other responsibilities related to setting up, negotiating and preparing multiple trade policies.

Sir George was also Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Prime Minister from 2016 to 2018 and Lord Commissioner of Her Majesty’s Treasury (senior whip) from 2015 to 2016. He was Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Home Secretary from 2012 to 2015.

Business

Sir George was founder, funder and adviser of the The Renewable Design Company/Rendesco from 2014 to 2019. He was an investor and adviser of Thompson Sowerbutts from 2005 to 2014, and founder, funder and director of Companion Care from 1994 to 2002.

Education

Sir George has an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania (1989 to 1991) and a BA in Human Sciences from Oxford University (1982 to 1985) with a concentration on social anthropology.

British Ambassador to Cuba

The Ambassador represents His Majesty The King and the UK government in the country to which they are appointed. They are responsible for the direction and work of the Embassy and its Consulates, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services.
