Gavin Cook was appointed Deputy High Commissioner to Ghana in June 2015. He was previously Deputy Head of Consular Assistance in London. He joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 2002, has served in Ukraine (2005) and Ethiopia (2006-10) and also held several positions in the UK including policy officer for Turkey, head of civilian European Security and Defence Policy, and Chief Press Officer for the Middle East and North Africa. Gavin is married with three children. He studied Modern History at Oxford (Brasenose College) and enjoys playing many sports, having played rugby including for England Student U21s and Oxford. Other interests include the environment, history and creative writing.
